playing the intro to meanstreet is about technical application. it's not knowing the notes and position, but developing the "FEEL". it requires commitment, dedication, devotion. a lot of guys I have known over the years, don't spend the time to "get it right" and settle for second best. not good enough!! my suggestion is when you play the intro of meanstreet from the cd,tape, record, remember the energy and enthusiasm you get when listening to it, then apply it when you are performing it. if it does not sound and feel right, you simply have not got the vibe goin' on. playing eddie's stuff requires 2nd person application, this may sound crazy but tell yourself "I AM EDDIE" it is a physcological format I use. good luck all. Okay guys. I'm NOT goin to defend his rant. Repeat. I'm NOT goin to defend his rant, but I am going to say his rant makes sense. Play it WITH the CD first. Play the CD at a volume where you can just barely hear the guitar....even better, put the wave file through soundforge and slow it down. Gradually, as you get better, increase the volume of the guitar and decrease the volume of the wave file...eventually...you'll get to where you dont even need it. Now, the whole "I AM EDDIE" thing is just beyond me...but it apparently works for him.
