So I've had a iPod shuffle for awhile, works great for running, however I finally bit the bullet and bought the brand new Generation 5.5 80gb iPod from an eBay auction. Well it hit the doorstep today and I figured I should go back and start rip'n the rest of my CD collection. Frick! I have over 1100 CDs! This is gonna take 4-EVER!...

Anyways, anyone else out there got their entire CD collection rip'd?

that's such a daunting task, I wouldn't know where to start. My collection is arranged alphabetically by artist and then arranged by release date. Then I would just wonder, should I RIP my favorites first or just run down the line. Best of luck to ya.

If you have 1100 CD's maybe you can help me out!

I'm looking for a band called shooting star.

And another band called Taxi.

Do you have those?

Dunno Matt, I'll take a look today, however neither band sounds familiar to me, sorry.

...should I RIP my favorites first or just run down the line...
When I first got my shuffle I randomly rip'd songs and then changed to whole CDs, but since I got the big mother I thought I should start from the beginning and work my way to the end. Oh, and I do the same thing, all my discs are sorted alphabetically and then by release year. Too funny, eh? I guess you have some of the retentiveness in ya that I do, huh Senor!?:ballchain

That's the best way to do it when you you have as many CD's as we do. Just like they do it it the store right? How else would we find anything? I just started to rip mine. I don't have an ipod but I do log into my home computer from work and hit random and it makes a 10-12 hour work day a little more tollerable. Good luck Chet.

Taxi had a hit called "I'm leaving".

And Shooting Star had a few hits.
I had the tape but cant remember the songs.

Thanks for looking and let me know.

Rock On!

I don't have 1100 CD's but somewhere around 500, and I have about half of them ripped on to my computer for use with my iPod. I only have a 4th Gen 20GB and it filled up pretty dang fast. Now if I'm in the mood for something that isn't ripped I rip it and then have to remove some songs so I can get the "new" tunes on it.

Senor, I use to have my CD's the exact same order that you do. After moving a few times they are completely messed up.

As a gag a friend of mine put all of my cd's in the wrong case and then rearraged them on the cd rack. Took forever to get it sorted out again.

prolly for getting your collection to an iPod the fastest :pound:

Seriously though, my collection has just been accumuluated over many years. At one point in my life, I bought 2 - 3 a week, but it has severely wained since then.

Got a ways to go Jeff, but you are a winner in my eyes.

I am in the neighborhood of 1100+, but I am older than dirt and bought my first discs back in 1987 or so - (The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band & Van Halen - 5150). I also have a pretty sizable collection of mini-discs, and LPs. However, I threw out all of my cassette tapes probably 10 years ago...:bounce:

Yeah, I only have about 400 cds, and the thing that really irritates me is that I'd say probably 2-3% skip on my Ipod. The cd's don't skip when I play them, but my friggin disc drive is so sensitive, when I ripped the songs, it picked up minor flaws. And the kicker is that it's not just a few crappy, secondary songs on cd's i don't listen to. It's stuff like AC/DC's For those about to rock and thunderstruck, and AT LEAST 1 song from every aerosmith album. Fortunately, the only VH song I've discovered this on is the very beginning of dreams. I might have to break down and buy the affected songs off of itunes (and of course they don't have any ac/dc)... On the plus side, I have most of my VH boots on there. Nothing beats jogging to DLR era VH playing Summertime Blues with sound quality so poor it sounds as though the band is playing in a wind tunnel in someone's anus...

I have over 2800 cd's and counting, and I do have the Shooting Star collection, "Hang On For Your Life". They had about 8 or 9 cd's in their library, good stuff man. Taxi I never heard of them, but will look around for it.

I just replaced my wife's ZUNE, because it got broke on her trip to Italy. I just got done with the "K" collection, I believe that it is A looooooooooonngg and hard task to down load, but listening to some of those songs that I haven't heard in awhile is awesome.

Threw out music??? Huh? I don't understand...... I can't seem to throw any stuff like that away. Problem is that sometimes they'll put songs on cassetes that they won't put on albums and vice versa. Also the art work is different some times, oh well, it is hard to listen to A cassette tape that has benn in the car for the whole summer back in the 80's and then play it today.

When I first bought my Kenwood cd player for home in 86, I bought AC/DC Back in Black, Van Halen 5150, Inxs, & damn if I can remember the other one.

Well Chet, I now understand the overwhelming task of getting CDs onto a player. I received a Zune for Christmas and am barely a quarter the way through. :ranger:

I'm in the same boat Luke, although I don't have nearly as many cd's. I'm somewhere around 4 or 500. I've got an 80gb iPod and after finishing up with the majority of my discs, I've got about 60 gigs left. A lot of my cd's i didn't copy the whole thing.

Yep, it is a daunting task. I finished up sometime near the end of October or so. B/T then and now I've actually bought several albums off of iTunes and have made plans to dig into one of my buddies collections.
