just thought of this...
THINGS WE WILL NOT -HOPEFULLY-THANKFULLY- SEE OR HEAR:
1. DAVE SINGING A SAMMY ERA SONG
2. M.A.'S, SORRY BRO.. HORRIBLE AND HORRIBLY LONG, BASS SOLO
3. DAVE DOING ENDLESS MARTIAL ARTS CRAP AND BLOWING THE SONGS
4. DAVE IN OPEN ASS CHAPS
5. EDDIE BOMBED (WOULD HAVE BEEN NO.1 BUT THESE HAVE NO ORDER)
6. EDDIE SMOKIN HIS ASS OFF (HEY, DIDNT SEE HIM PUFFIN AT ALL IN ANY OF THE REHEARSAL VIDS... MAYBE WOLF BEING THERE IS THE BEST THING FOR HIM....SET THE RIGHT EXAMPLE AND SHOW THE KID THAT YOU C A N ROCK WITHOUT SUBSTANCES... AND, YOU'LL SOUND WAY BETTER TOO!)
got any to add to the list? add some stuff.... just thought these would be kind of fun/interesting/humourous ones to start with

First...don't have to yell. ;)
I actually LOVED M.A.'s bass solo. Hell he seemed to be the only one who could actually go out and still run and jump around on stage.
ANYWAY.....we won't see..
any LIGHTERS in the air, since the original VH didn't play the sappy love songs.

We won't see young group of guys trying to make it in the rock and roll business by being new and fresh.
What we will see is mostly old guys making a last mad dash for cash. And the eventual collapse.

i dont, and i think others will agree with me, that THIS is NOT the end of VH. where do you get the 'eventual collapse' from? i, for one, do NOT consider early 50's old.. not in any sense.. especially given the fact that there are FAR, FEW, and i am sure, not very many younger guys/gals out their that can do what VH's is doing, at the level they are playing, with the CHOPS and ENDURANCE andmost of all, the QUALITY. we are in our 40's and i assure you, bro, we can and DO, blow many a young, 'new and fresh' artist/band off of many stages. and to that, none of us have ever collapsed! another thing... VH's material IS 'new and fresh' in a sense, that it hasnt been played like THIS since being released and the ensuing tours since.... 'new and fresh' to me is, for the most part, NOTHING in todays hard rock/heavy metal area. VH wrote GREAT POWERFUL songs... most, if not all of them. there is no speed burning, mindless, go nowhere, musically asanine riffing just for the sake of it, no death screaming mindless bullshit into mic's....'kill me... take my soul... f your mother, f my mother...' type CRAP (i hate that shit!) with people playing instruments withoout any, to me, mastery of concepts, put em all together, and you have GARBACE, hence, why none of whatever YOU call or are referring to as 'new and fresh' never lasts more than a couple of albums, these type of manufactured, windmill bands, have to tour in GREAT MANY lots of other type crap bands in order for the there to be a dollar made.. and it is THESE bands who eventually will and ALWAYS seem to, COLLAPSE. why, simply, they all sound alike, they play like crap, have no originality and all other types of faults and flaws that will, do them in. you dont have a clue. get any of your 'new and fresh' references to go toe-to-toe with the likes of ALex, Ed, Zakk, Dave, and all these so called 'old' guys... and betcha anything.. the winners ... ALL the time, will be the 'old guys'.

Relax Little Elvis, I was mostly phishing. And you took the bait... hook, line and sinker. But truthfully, these guys are old for rock and roll standards. True, there has been Rolling Stones reunions (and re-reunions, and even re-re-reunions) and even The Who has played past their prime. If VH actually makes some new music, then I will lay off the 'grab the cash, one for the road' talk. But as long as they are just playing music they created over 20 years ago... well, I will call it like I see it. And the collapse I predict will happen. Even if Eddie never drinks again, or Dave actually hits the high notes, and/or Wolfie's mother keeps allowing him to "go out to play".
Go see 'em if you got a chance... it very well may be your last chance.

ug... no, i didnt fall for it hook and sinker... i call it as I see it, and those who know me, know i pull no punches and i take issue with youngsters who think age is such a big damn factor when they themselves couldnt even hold a candle, let alone a guitar pick or set of drum sticks, to us older folk any day of the week. i dont go for phishing either; whether i address it or not, my decision-not gullible as you may think LOL, not excited either. just passionate about certain things. there is no reason vh cant continue on for years to come; it is, all they know... like ozzy, stones, aerosmith, sabbath, dio, priest, etc. it is rockers like these that are still writing the book on how its done; and age has not done shit to them except maybe just make them not run around a stage like maniacs and concentrate more on their music. i prefer the latter. that being said, i DO have ticks already, 2nd from stage, aisle, ed's side. nuf said. if those like you, pocede from a position where age, to you, is such a factor, woe be it for you when you get up there. now.. lets all rock like good little boys. :) i am taking it easy, btw....LOL

I think Van Halen will be around a little longer now with Wolfie. Just remember, there are two occupations that you never have to retire from: Being a rockstar or a wrestler. They don't ever quit.

Holy Mother of God... I think someone has called me a youngster. First Van Halen playing in 2007 (well, mostly VH) and then I am called a youngster. [Note to self, buy lotto ticket tomorrow.]
ozzy, stones, aerosmith, sabbath, dio, priest
Have you actually seen any of these acts play in the last few years? I have. Other than MAYBE Aerosmith I have one word for you. Sad. I recently attended the Ratt/Poison tour that is criss-crossing our country. I only spent $8 to get in and I still walked out of the arena sad.
it is rockers like these that are still writing the book on how its done
That would be a sad book. If we were talking plays here, I would call it a tragedy.
there is no reason vh cant continue on for years to come
And that assumption is based on what? Their storied history of being stable? Lets see, five singer line up changes and two bassists. The only thing consistent with VH are the VH's.
run around a stage like maniacs
That, my friend, is high energy Rock and Roll. You want Air Supply? ABBA?
concentrate more on their music
Music they created 20 years ago. Alzheimer's is a bitch.

I hate to break it to you old man, but age is 'such a factor' in regards to any high energy activity. My fondness of VH was not ALL about their music (come on, Jamies Crying... bubble gum. Ditto for Jump) but more about how they presented it. They presented their music at a very high energy level... the kind of energy only young people can muster for any length of time. (Sammy did a good job of this, but he is the lone exception I can think of)
Not that there is anything wrong with it, but until there is new music, this is nothing more than a nostalgia tour for die hards like you. Rock on gramps.
P.S.(revisiting the youngster comment) I listened to the first VH music on an 8-track... because cassette players were in their infancy. I immediately went out and bought the ALBUM, because there was no such things as CD's. Back then, if you were cool, you owned a reel to reel. Unfortunatly for me, I could not afford a reel to reel deck at 13 years of age... when the first VH record hit the streets.
Funny, I don't feel tardy (old).

You know old is such a relative term. In relationship to dirt, yeah you're a youngster. :pound:

Good one my VH friend... so, i see we ARE of or around the same age...give or take a few years... be it so, we have our own points of view and you stick by yours and i'll stick my mine... agree with some of your points...... well.. to a degree (cant give in all the way.... NOTE: buy a
FEW lotto ticks!!) i was into high end cassette decks then... in 1980, had my first apt. me and kid brother were thinkin of goin to ratt.... but figured THAT would be not what they WERE musically as they had back been then.... recently saw Def Lep.... the 'high energy rock' shlock you refer to was still there too a good degree... but as i said, i opt for high energy MUSIC and playiing... dont really or ever cared much for stage antics..... tends to take way too much from the music. (have we turned this thread into something else .... lol). youngster.... yeah... age is only a number, its how you feel mentally and physically, how you carry yourself and how you go through life.... i am young in all those, F the number....!! trust me, its the only way to keep that feeling.... hey, i may not be able to outrun my 16-year old son in distance... and this is true... he is 6ft... skinny/athletic, and i ran him to shit in speed a few days ago, and he cant keep up on the paddleball/racquetball courts... i've been playin hard for over 25 years... he couldnt last.. poor kid, for more than an hour.... almost collapsed him.... funny. i dont believe in laying around waiting for times cruel decent to slowly sap my effetiveness, ability, memory and other often, time destroying attributes from me as they tend to. i will not bow to it. sorry... trust me, if you live with a potentially life threatening disease/illness... you dont let anything get to you, and not that i have not always been this way before my challenge, but it made me fight back time slow's decay of life (f that!) me and the wife do lots of physical stuff and keep our body mind and sprit healthy and happy. 'rock on gramps'... all i can say to that is, no gramps here yet... gramps! you can be a grandparent at quite a young age these days...psssst... btw, i am not an old man either... no need to poke at the age thing. youth, as you refer to it, is often wasted on those who believe as you seem to, that those who are older than them, ARE old... heck, we had our kids when we were in our early 20's.... so... they dont see us as old... just older... especially after what we do with them... they for SURE dont go there LOL!! you, my friend, can 'rock on gramps' and bring yer cane, walker or hove-a-round to the show!! hey!! that'll get you in first and into the handicapped section!! maybe i'll pretend! dont forget to pick your lottery ticks! see ya at the show
peace. oh.. i will give that i cant keep up with xtreme psycho sports, not that i tried.. but some are too way out there and i have no desire to break anymmore bones. i'm not in any denial other than that which suits me well.

Little Elvis,
Its all green my friend. Its good to know that there are some people my age out there who still rock. But lets not kid ourselves here... the Van Halen brothers best days are behind them. Can they still play? Of course. Can they still entertain? For you and the other die hards I really hope so. Can they bring the house down? I seriously doubt it. I hope I am wrong, but I think I am right.
It seems as if we have traveled similar paths my friend. I/we waited until our mid 20's to have children, and I too have a 16 year old. My current girlfriend is two years younger than me yet we are raising her two grand kids, ages 6 and 3. So, I am sad to announce to the world that... here it comes... I am hitting a grandma. And I need no Viagra. Yet.
Back to your comments...
Perhaps we differ in musical tastes, because I buy CD's for good music and go to concerts for good shows (I tend to party pretty hard before, during and after concerts... so musical quality takes a back seat). Senorbeavis and I had this very discussion after the Gov't Mule show we both attended. You see, musically Mule was right on... studio on. But as far as stage presence and show, well, it just was not what I go to concerts for. After 8 beers, two dubes and a couple of crown and cokes I do not care if a note is missed.
So, you see, I think that is the big difference between you and I. To me concerts are huge group parties and good music is enjoyed at the hacienda and in the vehicle. I have not witnessed good music at a concert since Rush, back in 1981. Or maybe a solo Sammy back in 1983.
But, like you said... you got your opinion and I got mine.
Here to VH proving me wrong
