Recently a coworker asked me " if you could describe what Van Halen is with one song what song would it be?" I told him I'm The One. What song would you choose?

Dear Buddies, I would like to know what do you think about the last Sammy statement:: " as long as Ed and Al are alive Van Halen isn't finished.. " Is it possible a Van Halen reunion with Sammy and Mike in a not so distant future ? Let's wait and see...

I'm doing well thanks. Family has had a crazy last couple years with my grand daughter's leukemia.....but much like Van Halen she kicks ass and has only one more treatment to go and is doing great. Work has been crazy as well as I've moved up in responsibility quite a bit over the last few years but despite the stress level it was a good choice. In a pretty good place overall personally just in time for the world to go to shit...lol

© Andrew Bennett Photo You are fifteen years old. You are about to play your first rehearsal with Van Halen, on an instrument you've only been playing seriously for a couple of months. You're a little nervous, right? Well, then you are not Wolfgang Van Halen. According to Eruption in the Canyon author Andrew Bennett, who was there to film the youngster's first day playing with his father Eddie's famous rock band, Wolfgang was cool as a cucumber. "I was more nervous about my summer jobs mowing lawns than this kid was about joining Van Halen," remembers Bennett. "Wolfgang really enjoyed being there, he was having a great time. You would think a teenager would be like, 'I can't believe I'm about to join Van Halen and play stadiums, I'm nervous about the big crowds.' But Wolfgang was just like, 'nah, man, let's do this.'" Eruption in the Canyon features photos and stories from Bennett's two stints working at Eddie Van Halen's 5150 studios. In addition to the instantly infamous tale of Eddie allegedly putting a gun to the head of Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, the book covers the band's tense and brief 2004 studio reunion with Sammy Hagar, and Wolfgang taking over for Michael Anthony on bass two years later. "Eddie reached out and said, 'I've kicked Michael Anthony out of the band, I've replaced him with my son, I want you to come up here and film this.' What was supposed to be one day turned into three, turned into a month, turned into months. I was there from day one, I was there for Wolfgang's first rehearsal, I filmed it." Despite what Bennett describes as very little prep time, Wolfgang's ability to hang with his guitar hero father and drumming uncle Alex Van Halen was immediately apparent to everybody in the tiny studio. "My understanding was that he had rehearsed the catalog on his own for a month or two, and then he showed up for rehearsal and just nailed it." The first song the trio played together was 1984's "Panama." "If you could see the footage, the look on Ed's face is priceless," says Bennett. "He was excited. Now here he is with his brother and his son, not just like fucking around or noodling around, instead this kid is some kind of a savant. It was so cool to see Eddie so happy and so into it. Usually he just stands still, he doesn't move around in rehearsal. But there was days where he was so excited with Wolf right there, you would see him doing these little stage moves. It was fun to see him happy like that." The trio spent the next six months rehearsing the biggest songs from Van Halen's David Lee Roth-era catalog two or three times a day. According to Bennett, Wolfgang didn't require much coaching. "There were a couple of times where Ed would point something out to him, or show him how to move his fingers. But those were few and far between. The best part was just watching this 15-year-old kid, who can't even drive a car, who had just learned the Van Halen catalog, and he's standing there, I kid you not, looking like he's bored out of his mind. Don't get me wrong, he was very happy to be there, but he looked like a kid who was at summer school, except his summer school was, 'you have to join Van Halen.' Read More: View full article

A friendly jam session between Eddie Van Halen and Limp Bizkit reportedly wound up with the guitar icon putting a gun to Fred Durst’s head around 2001, a video director recalled. In his new photobook Eruption in the Canyon: 212 Days & Nights With the Genius of Eddie Van Halen, Andrew Bennett presents pictures and anecdotes from the period he spent filming Van Halen at work in their studio between 2004 and 2007. The band was unhappy with his results and a dispute over ownership ended up in court in 2018. The incident with Durst allegedly took place after guitarist Wes Borland had quit Limp Bizkit and the band held auditions to find a replacement. Durst and Eddie Van Halen were introduced at a party where a record-label executive suggested they work together. Bennett said Durst responded, “That would be hilarious. The greatest guitar player ever plays with the worst band ever.” But Van Halen responded with, “Fuck it, let’s jam.” The session went ahead at a house in Beverly Hills, but Van Halen, who’s not a fan of weed, left abruptly after people began smoking it, leaving guitars, amps and other equipment behind. Bennett said afterward the guitarist described the jam as “like being a scholar amongst kindergartners.” The following day, Van Halen contacted Durst to recover his gear, according to Bennett. The guitarist was still upset about the experience, and after not hearing back from Durst after 24 hours, he decided to take matters into his own hands. “Eddie once bought an assault vehicle from a military auction,” Bennett writes. “It has a shine gun mount on the back and is not legal. Eddie drove that assault vehicle through L.A., into Beverly Hills, then parked and left it running on the front lawn of the house Limp Bizkit was rehearsing in. He got out wearing no shirt, his hair in a Samurai bun on top of his head, his jeans held up with a strand of rope and combat boots held together by duct tape. And he had a gun in his hand.” “That asshole answered the door," Bennett recalled Van Halen explaining. "I put my gun to that stupid fucking red hat of his, and I said, ‘Where’s my shit, motherfucker?’ That fucking guy just turned to one of his employees and starts yelling at him to grab my shit. ... Eddie Van Halen stood on the front lawn of a residential home in Beverly Hills in broad daylight, smoking a cigarette while holding a gun on Fred Durst as he went back and forth from the house to the assault vehicle, lugging amps and guitars.” Bennett said the Van Halen-Limp Bizkit summit remains a head-scratcher to this day: “Katy Perry could join Slipknot and I would be less shocked.” Andrew Bennett's "Eruption in the Canyon: 212 Days & Nights With the Genius of Eddie Van Halen" is on sale Now!!
